MPs expenses scandal hits new low
Alan Duncan, the Conservative front bench, has taken the MP's expenses scandal to a new low with footage released into the public domain showing him mocking the lifestyle of MPs and suggesting that they were living on "rations". This is the man who is the Conservative representative on the Parliamentary allowances committee and as such has caused outrage across the UK.
Despite hundreds of MPs being forced to pay back taxpayer handouts, the suggestion by Alan Duncan that they have somehow been "hard done by" is almost laughable. As hundreds of thousands of people up and down the UK stare the threat of repossession in the face, MPs sit back and enjoy the gravy train which has been running for decades. Even though they were caught out just a few months ago the UK government has already watered-down various promises regarding future allowance payments to MPs.
While the Labour government has taken the vast majority of the flak regarding MPs expenses this is an all parties issue as hundreds of MPs seem to have their "noses in the trough". The last few weeks have seen some of the more bizarre expenses claims released into the public domain while in the background MPs and parliamentary leaders are again trying to keep their expenses private.
