Benefit thieves taking UK government to the cleaners
It has been revealed over the last few days that police have been monitoring a gang claiming tax benefits for five fictitious children with benefits believed to be in the hundreds of thousands of pounds. This is not an isolated case as the UK authorities seem to be unearthing enormous fraud gangs on a regular basis, thieves who are effectively taking millions upon millions of pounds from the UK benefit system.
While the benefit system has become very bloated over the last decade it is the fact that many databases are not connected which has made the job of finding fraudulent claims even more difficult. However, as the UK budget deficit continues to rise the UK authorities are now throwing more investment into the fraud prevention sector in the hope of both cutting off potentially enormous fraudulent claims today and in the future.
When you consider that UK unemployment is currently around 2.5 million, although many people believe that up to 6 million people may actually be out of work in the UK, it soon becomes apparent as to how many people are in the benefits system. While in many ways this is something which has helped the UK government to keep unemployment relatively low, a trick used by all governments in the past, it is certainly not a cheap option!
