Is it fair for successful business people to pay more tax?
While nobody could really argue with the fact that the more income you receive the more tax you should pay, there is a growing feeling that the UK government is now starting to over penalise successful business people in order to replenish the UK coffers and balance the budget. The government has already announced plans to introduce a 50p tax band and it would appear that a number of benefits for those on higher incomes will be taken away. But is this fair?
The truth is that many successful business people in the UK have created hundreds if not thousands of jobs which then obviously have their own benefit to the wider UK economy. The more that these successful business people are penalised the less willing they will be to take a chance with a new business and the less money they will have to "play with". As a consequence, the UK government is seriously risking the long-term support of wealthy businesspeople in the UK, a number of which have expressed an interest in moving overseas.
When you also consider the Internet is now a vital element of the worldwide business arena, many new business people have the opportunity to operate a business from any part of the world with just an internet link. The UK government should seriously consider the short-term gain against the potential long-term implications of attacking the rich!
