What are the MPs scared of?

The MPs expenses scandal is sure to be with us right up until the next general election and despite attempts by Gordon Brown to gain the higher ground, David Cameron has most certainly benefited more than any other party leader from his no-nonsense approach. Gordon Brown would appear to be under intense pressure from those within the Labour Party and despite his attempts to paper over the cracks on the TV and in the media, he is effectively a toothless tiger.

As talk of fresh legal action on behalf of MPs continues to reverberate around the Houses of Parliament there are now concerns as to what MPs are scared of and exactly what is behind this potential legal action. It is already known that MPs have tried to scupper various attempts to update and change the expenses system over the last few weeks, despite the government and the Conservative party putting on something of a united front in public.

The reality of the situation for Gordon Brown is the fact that the Conservative party has by far and away benefited more than any from the expenses scandal and if it continues right up until the next general election it will have a significant impact upon voting patterns. So far David Cameron has played a "blinder" in the run-up to the general election and many believe it is now his to lose.
