Has Gordon Brown Fallen Out With His Darling?

The whispers of unrest in the Treasury seem to be growing with many people suggesting the Gordon Brown and Alistair Darling have had a major fall out. If the rumours are correct, Darling has threatened to walk out of the government on three occasions over the past 6 months after being undermined by Gordon Brown on a number of issues.

Prior to taking his position at the Treasury, Alistair Darling was seen as one of Gordon Brown's closest allies, a man he could depend upon in any situation, however times have changed. On a number of occasions Gordon Brown has been very vocal on Treasury issues when the compliments are flowing and the news is good, but issues such as Northern Rock and the 10p Tax Debacle were very much left to Alistair Darling with the PM going to ground.

Brown has also been demanding a more hands on approach to the Treasury, even though he often kept Tony Blair in the dark when he was Chancellor. The relationship between the two men is rumoured to be holed below the water line with very little common ground shared by both parties. Alistair Darlings days at the Treasury are numbers, but whether he jumps or is pushed remains to be seen.
