Government announce new emissions targets - with conditions!

News that the UK government had announced a new emissions target which would see the country reduce all emissions by 80% prior to 2050 received a standing ovation from the green sector, until they saw the small print!

In Ed Miliband's first speech to parliament in his new role as Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change it was hoped that this would mark the start of a new phase in the fight to save the planet. However, the small print shows that the UK shipping and aviation industries are exempt from the new regimes target. When you consider that the aviation and shipping industries are among the greatest polluters of the environment, what was the point of announcing such a deal?

Yet again we have a move by the authorities which is more spin over substance with headline grabbing moves which literally fall apart after reading the small print. However, it will be worthwhile monitoring the number of new taxes that will be introduced on the back of the new target - something that we will all have to pay to save the environment yet again!

Green issues are just a cheap shot at the taxpayer and another guise to increase the governments income, after all, where are the details of how our recent green taxes were spent?
