Gordon Brown targets low-income families
In a move which many feel is a return to the Labour Party's grassroots it has been announced that Gordon Brown is looking at tax cuts for low income families. It has been rumoured that up to £15 billion worth of tax cuts are on the horizon although as yet there is no confirmation of the government's plans.
The move to assist the low-income families of the UK should reduce the number of housing repossessions in the short to medium term and also ensure that more and more families are pulled away from the precipice of financial ruin. If Gordon Brown can pull off this trick and stimulate the economy then there is every chance he could return to favour with the UK voters and give himself more than a fighting chance of victory at the next election.
However, in the short to medium term there are many hurdles for Gordon Brown to manage as he needs to find a balance between lending to encourage economic growth and any lending which may be seen as reckless and have a potentially damaging impact upon the sterling exchange rate. This is a very difficult period for Gordon Brown but he does seem to be up for the challenge.
