Working couples with children hit hardest by Labour taxes

As tax experts continue to consider the implications of recent announcements from the government it appears as though working couples with children have suffered most under the current Labour government. Since coming to power figures show this area of society to be more than £1500 a year worse off by 2012. Many people are highlighting the fact that this is perhaps the group of society who some believed Labour would "look after" and contains many grassroots supporters.

There is no doubt that taxes have increased over the last 10 years although it is also worth pointing out that prior to the credit crunch and economic slowdown the UK consumer had never had it so good for some time. Property prices have risen massively over the period, incomes have increased and GDP has been steadily rising. However, there have been more and more indirect taxes introduced into the frame and this has seen the cost of living in the UK also rise substantially.

There are hopes that recent announcements on the tax front may shift the emphasis from the "working class" to the higher end of the class system where incomes and assets are substantially higher. The last few months have seen a marked shift in the strategy of the Labour government, back to their grassroots support.
