Taxpayers group publishes list of "non-jobs" in the public sector

The taxpayers Alliance has today blown open government claims that belts were being tightened in the public sector as the economy continues to take a firm grip on the UK population. They have highlighted a number of "non-jobs" which include a street footballer coordinator earning almost £20,000 a year, European programme policy officer earning just over £37,000 a year, community space challenge coordinator earning over £33,000 a year and a public affairs manager earning over £45,000 a year. Quite what these positions are and what they offer to the public is very bizarre!

It has also been revealed that during the third quarter of 2008 the public sector workforce increased by 14,000 while 128,000 jobs were lost in the private sector. Despite a number of assurances that the government was looking to reduce costs we have seen the cost of public services to the taxpayer increase substantially over the last few years.

There was also been a serious debate about the pension fund arrangements for public sector workers and MPs with the UK taxpayer having to pay more and more each year to these arrangements. This also goes hand-in-hand with the massive perks afforded to MPs even though there have been promises of serious reform in this area.
