Has Barack Obama joined the Tory camp?
As we move towards the G20 summit, to be held in London from 2 April, it has been confirmed that Barack Obama has arranged a meeting with David Cameron on the Wednesday he flies into London. This is a severe slap in the face for Gordon Brown who has for some time been hanging on to the coattails of the US leader.
There is a suggestion, apparently coming from the US camp, that the US authorities believe the Conservative party is best placed to take on the role of the next UK government. As a consequence, it would appear that the forthcoming meeting between the two leaders could be the first of many. When you also reflect on the very low key meeting that Gordon Brown recently had with Barack Obama in the US there are signs that the Brown magic may be wearing off.
However, before Conservative supporters start to count their chickens, there is no doubt that the US authorities have put their own economy way above that of the worldwide economy. Quite rightly, Barack Obama has entered office promising to support the American people and the American economy and so far he has at least attempted to deliver on his promises.
