Gordon Brown offers drop-in financial advice service at Number 10

For those struggling with the woes of the recession, help will soon be at hand. The Prime Minister announced this morning that he will be offering a free financial advice drop-in service to members of the public. Each twenty-minute free advice session will take place at 10 Downing Street, and will run by the Prime Minister himself on a first-come first served basis throughout April.

Gordon Brown commented, "My free advice service represents fast and easy access to good quality advice straight from the horse's mouth. This is one key way in which I have decided to tackle the economic crisis, and it is also a fantastic opportunity for people to meet me face to face."

Robert Prime of Financialadvice.co.uk, who attended the Press Conference this morning, commented: "Financial decisions are often difficult, even when the economy is thriving. We welcome this initiative by Gordon Brown and hope to see it translated into a long-term government strategy later this year. If he is able to provide members of the public with good advice, this could have a massive impact on tackling debt and hopefully get the wider economy moving again."

Although the move has been welcomed by many, the number of people able to benefit from the service could be limited. With each session lasting for twenty minutes, and sessions running between the hours of 5pm and midnight this month, Mr Brown expects to see a maximum of 630 people take up his offer. Whether this is a sensible use of his time remains to be seen.
