Is internal government bickering hampering a recovery in the UK?
As the headlines with regards to the UK government continue to worsen, with rumours of infighting and leadership battles, many are now growing concerned about the short-term impact this may have on the UK economy. Despite assurances from those at the top of the UK government, there is no doubt that much time and effort is being spent discussing and countering claims of unrest within the government and the Labour Party.
There are even some MPs who are calling for a general election this year rather than 2010 but this is highly unlikely to happen with the UK government looking to take the full term before calling an election. While much of the groundwork has been done over the last few months with substantial rescue packages, there is growing concern that various government policies will be blocked in the House of Commons by dissident backbench Labour MPs.
Is Gordon Brown losing control? Is the UK government out of control?
These are questions which many people are asking though unfortunately there is no simple answer to any of them. After being mooted as the saviour of the world only months ago, Gordon Brown's position in the world pecking order has fallen dramatically over the last few weeks.
