UK workers set for jobs rally

Thousands of workers in the Midlands are set to protest at the UK government's handling of the economic crisis with a march organised in Birmingham. The area has suffered dramatically during the ongoing recession with one in 10 people in the Midlands now unemployed amid concerns that the UK government has been slow to react to the crisis and less than forthcoming with much new capital investment.

The protest is being organised by the Unite union which has been a particular thorn in the side of UK government for some time. However, when you consider the Midlands has suffered job losses at the likes of Corus, Vauxhall and Jaguar Land Rover there is much anger and frustration. The ongoing demise of the UK car manufacturing industry has hit the area particularly hard, but it is not only jobs directly associated with the industry which have disappeared, with many in the supply and services chain connected with the sector are also suffering.

Many believe this particular demonstration will be the first of many across the UK as anger grows at the UK government's handling of the economic crisis, the massive investment into the financial sector and a reluctance to assist and help smaller businesses throughout the UK.
