Gordon Brown will fight on
As Gordon Brown is set for a serious drubbing in the local council elections and the European elections the embattled Prime Minister has again come out fighting suggesting that he is not about to give up the fight, is the best man for the job and will eventually lead the UK economy out of recession. There is no doubt that respect for Gordon Brown has taken a serious battering over the last few days amid signs that he had wanted to eject his friend Alistair Darling from the Treasury and replacing with one of his close associates.
Against this backdrop of a severe reduction in his power and standing amongst his fellow Labour MPs there is still a concerted effort to bring about a leadership challenge over the next few days and weeks. However, as David Cameron today suggests, the UK economy needs action now and further problems within the UK government will only slow down a recovery and take away the emphasis from the most important element of the UK, i.e. the economy.
It is sometime since we saw any major economic programs or rescue packages announced by the UK authorities with a suggestion that Gordon Brown has his battles to fight elsewhere.
