UK government puts politics first
In a shocking indictment of the current state of the UK government, it was revealed that employees from the stricken van maker LDV were ignored as they attempted to lobby ministers for government aid. With a demonstration planned for Friday they were informed that there were no ministers available to speak to them because of ongoing issues within the UK government, i.e. the Cabinet reshuffle.
Many people have some time been complaining that the UK government has been putting politics ahead of the UK economy and UK workers. This latest move regarding the LDV employees, who stand to lose their jobs if the government cannot assist them, has only muddied the water and is a definitely a slap in the face for UK employees. On a day when the Labour vote collapsed in both local council and European elections this PR is probably the last thing which Gordon Brown needed at this moment in time.
Like many governments before, the current government stands accused of lip service to so many different areas of the UK economy and UK workforce while ultimately taxation income and politics come first. Whether Gordon Brown will now return his focused towards the UK economy and UK workers, now that the Cabinet reshuffle has ended, remains to be seen.
