One million immigrants set to leave UK over next five years

The debate regarding foreign nationals working in the UK is set to intensify over the coming months with an announcement by the Institute for Public Policy Research which has today released findings suggesting that up to 1,000,000 immigrants will leave the UK over the next five years. The reason for these forecast moves is simply the fact that the UK economy is struggling and job prospects are not as good as they have been.

However, before the government starts to count savings from the Social Security budget it is worth remembering that net immigration into the UK will still be positive with more than 1 million people expected to visit and stay in the UK over the next five years. This will however take some of the heat off the growth in the UK population and will ultimately lead to less pressure on the government's social security budget. It does however decimate the argument that immigrants to the UK were moving here for the longer term, for good or for bad, when in practice they came for the short-term job prospects and are set to leave for other shores.

The subject of immigration and foreign national workers in the UK is one which continues to roll on and will be a major issue at the next general election.
