Why is Gordon Brown suddenly the pariah of Europe?
As the worldwide economy entered what has been one of the most difficult recessions in living memory, Gordon Brown suddenly sprung up as a well-respected and renowned statesmen. His revolutionary policy to spend, spend, spend his way out of the UK recession was followed by many in Europe and looked upon favourably by other developed and developing countries. However, over the last few weeks Gordon Brown's reputation on the international stage has taken something of a battering with EU partners openly criticising his plans and many willing to leave him high and dry with regards to the $1 trillion global rescue package agreed in London earlier this year.
Suddenly, Gordon Brown is literally friendless in Europe as EU economies continue to overtake the UK and move towards their own sustained recovery period. In many ways Gordon Brown was pushed forward as the saviour of Europe at a time when many European governments did not have a clue what to do and how to tackle the recession. However, now that holes have appeared in Gordon Brown's original economic revival plan it seems that everybody else is ignoring the UK and Gordon Brown in particular. As they say, 24 hours is a long time in politics!
