Would a Conservative government have controlled the UK financial sector?

As the Labour government comes under more and more pressure regarding its handling of the UK financial sector and the fact that many promises are being broken and billions upon billions of pounds of taxpayer's money have been spent, could a Conservative government have done any better?

While there are many people in the UK now praying for a change of government as we approach the next general election the truth is that the ongoing recession is one of the harshest in history and ultimately no one-party and no one government could have forecast such a drop in economic activity. Whether the Labour Party has invested taxpayer's money to the best of their ability is open to debate because there seems to be a great emphasis on the financial sector while the rest of the economy is left high and dry.

As you would expect, the Conservative party has been attacking the UK government with regards to the economy for some time and while some of their accusations are possibly misplaced, the fact that the government has spent billions upon billions of pounds of UK taxpayers money in the good times, leaving nothing in the coffers, is perhaps the greatest failing of Gordon Brown. Would a Conservative party have done any better? We may well be about to find out!
