America rocked by racism claims
America is tonight in turmoil amid claims that political racism is affecting the running of the country and recent attacks on the policies of Pres Obama have been based upon elements other than the policies themselves. The issue has come to the fore with comments made by former Pres Jimmy Carter who believes that a number of hard-line attacks on Pres Obama are based upon racism.
As the President looks to push through one of the largest fiscal packages of all time this could not have come at a worse moment and could, if mishandled, result in the US economy stagnating in the short term. Despite hopes that racism would not play a part in the tenure of Pres Obama it has actually reared its ugly head at a very early stage and divided the country down the middle.
It will be interested to see how the subject is handled over the next few days with the left-wing and right-wing press bitterly opposed in their views and problems now occurring in Congress where politicians are seriously at odds with each other. While Pres Obama has played down the issue of racism over the last 24 hours there is no doubt this is a subject that will run and run and could impact on the US economy and the worldwide economy at large.
