Postal strike could cost jobs

While the UK government, UK Post Office and the unions continue to bicker regarding the future of the UK Post Office it seems that many small businesses are suffering more than most. Unable to deliver bills, pay invoices and deliver general correspondence, many small business operators have appealed to the unions and the Post Office to get back to the negotiating table and find a settlement to these problems.

Despite the fact that potentially thousands of jobs are a risk at the UK Post Office, as cost-cutting continues, we could also see a number of small businesses hit financial trouble as cash flow comes under pressure. Inadvertently, the unions and the Post Office management could well be pushing many small businesses to the wall and making life very difficult for even those that have been successful during these troubled times.

Sooner or later the UK government needs to step in and ensure that UK post, both consumer and business post, is protected in some way shape or form. However, there is still great friction between UK government and the unions with the government unable to push too hard on specific issues for fear of upsetting their paymasters, something which the unions are only too aware.
