Who is more trustworthy with the UK economy?
As the cracks begin to show regarding a potentially recovery in the UK economy many voters are now debating which party they believe is more trustworthy with UK finances. While just 12 months ago Gordon Brown was basking in the glory of worldwide recognition for his attempt to revitalise the UK economy, today he has been cast aside by many of his European counterparts and ridiculed on the political stage.
Alternatively, David Cameron today delivered a speech which was passionate and understanding, realistic and encouraging and caught the eye of many voters in the UK. Historically the Conservative party has been seen as more trustworthy with UK finances although "new Labour" did steal this mantle from a few years. Ultimately it appears to have come down to a matter of trust in the political parties, and the political leaders, with Gordon Brown seen as dithering and issuing misleading statements, while David Cameron has appeared to be "straight down the line", at least so far.
It will be interesting to see how the economic policies of the two parties are formulated in the run up to the next general election because ultimately they will mean the difference between victory and failure for the Conservative party.
