Conservative party increases lead in the polls
It has been revealed that 45% of UK voters would vote for the Conservative party if an election was held tomorrow which gives the Tories a 19 point lead over the Labour Party. If this particular poll had been taken a year ago people would have dismissed it as relevant but with only a few months to go before the next general election time is running out for Gordon Brown to make up the gap.
As we have mentioned in the past, it appears that UK voters believe the story put forward by the Conservative party more than they believe the strategies used by the Labour Party. Despite Gordon Brown going on the attack and trying to "rubbish" Conservative policies for the future, this would appear to have backfired disastrously. There are many who now believe the Labour Party has nothing to lose and will become involved in one of the dirtiest campaigns for some time with negative campaigning and personal attacks on many of the Tory front bench.
However, there are also growing rumours that Lord Mandelson may well be in line for a position with Tony Blair if he is declared president of the EU. This would leave Gordon Brown high and dry and literally leave the Labour Party to rebuild itself from the bottom up.
