Postal union offers deal to avert mail strike
The Communication Workers Union has today informed Royal Mail management that is willing to enter last ditch talks with the aim of averting the forthcoming postal strike. While the unions have given some leeway after recent requests from the Royal Mail management, they have made it clear this is the last chance before they will have no option but to strike.
There are many behind the scenes who believe that the UK government has become more involved over the last few days as the strike moves closer and more and more companies are concerned about delivery of items, cheques and correspondence in the run-up to Christmas. Christmas is a vital time for the retail industry and an inability to deliver items on time and receive cheques will obviously impact upon cash flow, profitability and the overall running of some businesses.
It is hoped that these last ditch talks are fruitful although both the parties do appear to be fairly dug in with regards to their strategy, beliefs and their policies. Whether this is just a way for the union and the Royal Mail management to save face and blame each other for the strike, if they cannot agree on a compromise, is open to debate.
