Northern Ireland receives job boost from the New York Stock Exchange
The New York Stock Exchange has announced the creation of 400 high-tech jobs in Northern Ireland as the world's largest investment market looks to expand its Irish operations. The jobs will be created in the software industry which supports money markets around the world and is continuing to expand into new areas.
While there is obviously a very close relationship between Northern Ireland and the US authorities, this is by far and away the largest job creation scheme in Northern Ireland for some time and has been well received in political circles. The move by the New York Stock Exchange will see the Irish authorities invested £9.6 million into the new operation but this will be dwarfed by the benefit to the local economy and local workforce.
There are hopes that the emergence of a prominent company such as the New York Stock Exchange will further highlight the benefits of Northern Ireland to international investors and expand and improve the employment market. This comes at a time when worldwide stock markets have remained fairly strong on hopes that the worldwide economy will improve, despite the fact that some analysts have reservations about how the economy will perform in 2010.
