UK public turns against postal staff

A recent survey by the Daily Telegraph has shown that support for the Communication Workers Union, representing the UK postal service workers, is ebbing away as UK consumers and UK businesses become ever more concerned about the run-up to Christmas. Slowly but surely the Royal Mail management appears to be winning the PR war although this is a battle which nobody can win because ultimately the longer the dispute continues the more damage this does to Royal Mail's reputation and underlying business in the short, medium and longer term.

Many now believe that the union and the Royal Mail management will come to some kind of "agreement" which will effectively save face for both sides. The truth is that neither party can afford to let the dispute run much longer because as we run-up to Christmas there is a need to ensure that the UK economy keeps rolling. Whether a long-term postal strike would have a significant impact upon the economy as a whole is debatable but small businesses will suffer and with cash flow difficult at the moment there will be some forced out of business, the longer the dispute goes on.

There has been relatively little press coverage of the dispute over the last 24 hours with many people expecting an announcement in the very short term.
