Has the election countdown already begun?
While the official date for the next general election is not yet be set in stone, although 6 May appears to be a favourite, it looks as though the countdown to the election has already begun. We have seen the Labour Party and the Conservative Party in the weekend press with suggestions of new policies and new strategies and various criticisms of each other. We are seeing taxation brought to the forefront, public services in the headlines and taxpayers will have many different factors to consider in the weeks and months ahead.
To all intents and purposes the countdown to the election has begun and while nobody knows the definitive date for the election it is certain to be before June 2010. Will Gordon Brown receive a stamp of approval from UK voters and finally take office with a mandate from the UK public? Will David Cameron emerge from the shadows of the last few years and bring the Conservative Party back into the limelight?
The economy and taxation will be the most important factors as we approach the next election and there are already significant differences between the policies of each party. Whether the Labour Party can look back on the last decade and use it as a blueprint for the future is debatable, but what experience does the current Tory party have of managing an economy?
