Birmingham the 'shopaholic capital' of Britain
Women from Birmingham spend an average £1,813.56 each year on fashion purchases, a new study has shown. Research into spending habits from price comparison website uSwitch has named Birmingham females as the worst shopaholics in the UK.Researchers claim that 765,642 British women can be classed as shopaholics, with almost half a million admitting to slipping clothing acquisitions onto a partner's credit card.According to uSwitch, Birmingham ladies spend the highest proportion of their disposable income on fashion, at 9.4 per cent, compared to the national average of seven per cent. The study highlights the fact that some women seem unable to control their spending, an issue being addressed by BBC3's programme, Spendaholics.Jay Hunt, presenter, has formulated a guide to responsible shopping called The Shopaholic's Guide to Budgeting, which is a free plan designed to help women take a more responsible approach to spending. Ms Hunt comments: "Shopping is the nation's favourite pastime but so many of us throw money away needlessly. The Shopaholic's Guide has been written to help remedy this and enable women to get their spending under control, while still enjoying the thrill of shopping."
