Alex Salmond Calls For PFI Money
He has criticised the style of funding, he has always claimed he would never embrace it, but as they say even a week is a long time in politics. That King of spin, Alex Salmond has backed down in a major u-turn for his party and accepted that private finance will be required to fulfil his ambitious plans for Scottish schools, hospitals and roads. So what has changed his mind?
Ever since the SNP gained power in the Scottish Parliament Alex Salmond has been on one long crusade to right the wrongs of the Labour party and breathe fire into the push for an independent Scotland. All along he has claimed this would happen through cost savings, a more efficient tax system and a number of high profile attempts to extract more funding from the UK government. After huffing and puffing for some time it seems that even the famous Alex Salmond spin has not worked and funding is just not there.
Salmond has now called in the cavalry and a whole host of private investors are set to hit the market at a time when business is tight and margins are falling. If the disastrous Scottish Parliament project is anything to go by then the SNP PFI projects of the future could be very lucrative indeed!
