British Tycoon Gifts £466 Million To Wife's Charity
While all around them money is becoming tighter and tighter it seems that British billionaire Chris Hohn is far from feeling the pinch. The 41 year old hedge fund manager has just passed over £466 million to a charity administered by his wife for the welfare of those in the third world. The move is the largest single charitable donation by a British citizen and brings his total over the last four years to a mammoth £800 million. However, the donation is still some way behind the irrepressible Bill Gates who has donated over £20 billion in his lifetime so far!
Chris Hohn runs the Children’s Investment Fund which has a very close relationship with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation and regularly donates a percentage of funds to the charity. The organisation itself was only set up in 2003 but has so far managed to raise some colossal sums for those in the third world.
However, the general UK charity sector has been suffering of late with surplus funds unavailable and charitable donations being hit hard. Unfortunately for many this has come at a time when government funding is also under pressure, creating something of a double whammy for those in difficult situations.
