Pay Protection Schemes Deemed Illegal

In a move which has far reaching implications for the UK employment sector, three judges have today ruled that pay protection scheme used by many public sector offices up and down the country are illegal. The schemes were introduced as a way of selling pay deals which brought male and female employees onto the same pay scales if doing the same jobs. In exchange for forgoing on a number of bonuses, etc, predominantly male workers were offered the protection scheme whereby their salaries were fixed while action was taken to equalise pay across the genders.

The case was brought against two councils in the UK but has far reaching implications after the judges refused permission for the councils to appeal to the House of Lords. The subject of single salary levels has been a bone of contention for some time with one party always losing out through no fault of their own. Now that these protection schemes, which normally lasted 4 years, have been deemed illegal councils, public bodies and companies across the UK will be forced to payout millions of pounds in compensation.

The whole pay equalisation system in the UK has been fraught with problems since day one and the situation is getting no better.
