More Strikes And Another By-Election In The Offing
News that the police federation has asked members to 'secure your full entitlements' (seen in many areas as a call for work to rule), further pending strike action by council workers and the sad news of the death of a Labour MP in Scotland's heartland has heaped yet more pressure on the punch drunk Gordon Brown.
Just when he thought things could get no worse it looks as though the UK will be brought to a halt by a number of pending strike actions, the police work to rule and further signs that the economy is struggling. The high risk that Labour will lose another Scottish seat when the election for the Kingdom of Fife seat is called, either late October or early November, will no doubt see many of the PMs foes in the Labour Party sharpening their knives.
Many on the political scene are calling for a general election if, as expected, Labour lose the Kingdom of Fife seat. While we are highly unlikely to see a general election before 2010 the pressure on Gordon Brown and the government is growing by the day. Quite what the opposition can do to push through a general election is uncertain but you will no doubt have noticed that the opposition parties have been fairly quiet of late as the Labour Party continues to damage itself from within, without the assistance of anyone else!
