Gordon Brown's demise may herald a new era in UK politics
While he may not be on the rack quite yet the open revolt throughout the Labour Party has caused many to look beyond the current government and plan for the future. It looks as though Gordon Brown may well have presided over the demise and almost certain death of New Labour and allowed Old Labour to rise from the ashes like a phoenix.
We are now seeing more and more MPs stepping forward to ask for change in the leadership and while the more senior members of the party are standing firm behind Gordon Brown at the moment it seems only a matter of time. At the end of the day politics is all about democracy and if the people want change they will have change.
You have to feel a little sympathy for Gordon Brown, he presided over what many saw as the longest period of economic stability in the history of the UK only to see it all come crashing down around his feet. He has been hung out to dry by many of those who supported him, in a similar fashion to Margaret Thatcher who went from hero to zero overnight in the eyes of the Tory Party hierarchy.
