We will do whatever it takes!
As the government rolled out the same old patter today the stock markets took a tumble and it looks as though we are no further forward. 'We will do whatever it takes to....', 'We will do whatever it takes....' was the same old line being repeated by the Chancellor and the PM but what does it all mean? What is 'We will do whatever it takes'?
The first time the PM uttered those words there was a relief that something was going to happen, the second time the Chancellor repeated the phrase we all stood up to attention - 'Great we are all going to be saved'. The time for talk and sound bites has gone, the Germans have guaranteed all private bank savings, why can't we do that? The EU is looking at a rescue package, why can't we do our own?
Slowly but surely the once powerful word of the government is being taken apart bit by bit and they do not seem to have an answer. The once powerful PM is now consigned to repeating the same old sound bites with no meaning, no hints and no idea how we will get out of this mess. Is it little wonder the markets took a pasting today?
