Shh, don't mention the recession
As the R-word has slipped into many of the weekend papers it looks as though the government has managed to avoid a major slating by the press. We have in case in situation where the experts were calling the recession many weeks if not months before the government and by the time it has actually happened it is not really worthwhile news. A lucky escape or a well planned piece of spin?
Whatever has happened the R-word has not helped investor and consumer confidence with sellers appearing across an array of markets, all looking to sell up and liquidate what they have. So is this the end of the UK stock market as we know it, is the UK property sector now a changed animal and will we ever see the economy reach the levels of yesteryear?
While we may not have been in a recession which was as deep and as long lasting as this for some time, the UK markets will bounce back, they will recover and investors will find their nerve again. However, it is likely to take some time and those expecting a quick turnaround in the UK will be sadly disappointed. The recession will be long, deep and could literally rip the heart out of the UK.
