George Bush defends free market economy
George Bush has come out fighting on behalf of the free market as many analysts around the world continue to suggest the system needs refined and the free-market economy of yesteryear is dead. President Bush while admitting that there needs to be changes to the financial system as it stands is adamant that the free market movement is not to blame for the fear and greed which has dominated the press coverage over the last 12 months.
The reality is that a free market economy, although to what degree it is "free", is a necessity of the modern world and can work if regulations and safety nets are in place to ensure we do not see the boom and bust scenario commonplace around the world over the last 12 months. There are concerns in some quarters that the financial sector as a whole is now too powerful and in effect dictating the direction of the worldwide economy at every stage.
While governments around the world seem to have learned their lesson over the last 12 months there are concerns that slowly but surely the financial sector and the economy will slip back into the old routine of fear and greed and boom in bust.
