Alistair Darling defends Gordon Brown over G20
Alistair Darling has come to the defence of Gordon Brown with opponents suggesting that his much acclaimed tax deal with G20 members is in fact something of a sham. It has been claimed by the Tory party that the deal which Gordon Brown announced on Friday is in fact nothing more than a discussion paper where the situation has been outlined in detail. It looks as though the devil is in the detail and the detail does not match the headlines.
Some in the Labour Party claim that Gordon Brown feels as if he is invincible at the moment with his UK rating on the rise, his international presence on the increase and his reputation around the world as high as it has ever been. This is the situation which many had feared, the fact that Gordon Brown has made a recovery from recent lows but seems to have been caught out on his announcement that a tax cutting deal has already been agreed.
Alistair Darling has backed the Prime Minster with regards to the statement and his intentions at the G20. This is most certainly the hand of friendship from a former very close friend who is under serious pressure in his own department at the moment.
