Lord Mandelson warns there is no blank cheque for UK plc
Despite appearing to be on the side of business only a matter of days ago Lord Mandelson has tonight warned UK businesses that there is no blank cheque available to bail them out. This comes at a time when industries such as the car manufacturing sector in the UK are under serious pressure with suggestions that Vauxhall is on the verge of collapse and other manufacturers are not far behind.
While nobody had expected a bottomless pit of money to help out the UK economy, many industries are looking with envy at the banking sector which has received literally hundreds of billions of pounds. They see a sector which has refused to increase liquidity to businesses, as promised, retained the vast majority of recent cost savings, in defiance of the government, and literally holds all of the trump cards for the UK economy. The government is again in a very tricky situation because if they give in to the car manufacturers then this could open the floodgates and possible legal action from other sectors.
The government is in desperate need of some buds of recovery from the UK economy but at this moment in time spring seems very far away.
