Have lessons been learned from the ongoing economic slowdown and banking crisis?
As many of the concerns held by the major authorities earlier in the year are released into the public domain there are hopes this evening that lessons have been learnt and the situation we are seeing today is not allowed to develop in the future. Despite the massive amounts of money which have been thrown at the financial system we are not yet out of the woods but the situation is vastly improved on the scene just a few months ago.
The Bank of England seems to be currently bearing the brunt of criticism amid suggestions of a lack of leadership and delays injecting massive funding capabilities into the money market. Whether it is fair to blame the Bank of England for a situation which nobody had forecast around the world is debatable but thankfully lessons seem to have been learned. However, there are some who are now questioning whether the Bank of England should remain independent of the government of the day amid claims that the Labour Party is looking to revoke the independence move.
Whatever happens over the next 12 months in the UK economy there is no doubt that the regulatory framework and structure will change forever.

Read MoreWhere next for UK inflation?
Over the last 20 years inflation has been the devil in the deep blue sea and something which all governments have attempted to control and avoid spiralling higher and higher.
