Gordon Brown demands wartime spirit from UK consumers
Gordon Brown has today issued a rallying call to the UK population to show some wartime spirit in these very testing times. However, despite a number of public appeals it would appear that the general UK consumer is lacking in both confidence and ready cash to make any significant impact on the economy at this moment in time. This is the latest attempt by Gordon Brown to instil a "must do" attitude into the UK but like many of his rescue plans before it will appear doomed to failure. So what can Gordon Brown do next?
The UK government is fast running out of options and money to refloat the UK economy with very little return on any recent rescue plans as yet. The situation has not been helped by the constant criticism of both the UK economy and the government's handling of the situation by a number of outside parties. The UK has regularly been quoted as being one of the weakest economies in the developed world with many suggesting this will seriously delay the inevitable recovery.
In many ways Gordon Brown appears to take one step forward and two steps back in his pursuit of an answer to the problem. While nobody can deny the government has been very proactive of late, there has been very little return on the substantial investment made into in the economy of late.
