Gordon Brown calls on worldwide co-ordination for economic recovery
There has been a distinct change in the tone of Gordon Brown's speeches over the last few weeks with more emphasis placed on worldwide co-ordination as the best way to inject life into the worldwide economy. There has also been a forthright confirmation that the UK economy is in a worse situation than many had expected and the government of the day had not seen this coming.
We are also seeing the emergence of speculation that Gordon Brown has been advised by party members not to become the "minister of recession" and to tone down his overenthusiastic manner when talking about fighting a recession. More and more people are now seeing Gordon Brown attempting to make the most of the recession, a recession which many people believe he had a serious hand in when Chancellor of the Exchequer.
There is also growing speculation about the possibility of a serious Cabinet reshuffle over the next few weeks and months with Alistair Darling one name which appears to be top of the change list. However, Alistair Darling has for some time been a strong ally of Gordon Brown (even if their relationship is not strong as it once was) and many believe his position would be severely weakened if the PM went down this route.
