Scottish economy under serious threat
It has today been revealed that the Scottish economy is shedding jobs at the fastest pace in more than a decade with the situation said to be very much worse before it gets better. Employment positions are being lost in all areas of the economy but it is the private sector, as opposed to the public sector, which is most under severe pressure. Amid claims that the Scottish government has been slow to react to the problem we should see a number of rescue packages and financial programs rolled out over the coming weeks although this would be with the support of the UK government.
While the Scottish National Party is unwilling to admit it, the Scottish economy has been shown to be very weak and without significant input from the rest of the UK the situation could be very much worse. The "Union" has been under severe pressure since the SNP was able to form a minority government, with plans to push through a referendum on possible independence. However, as the Scottish economic situation continues to worsen there are concerns within SNP circles that the dream of independence for Scotland is disappearing quickly.
Over the last few months the SNP has been at serious loggerheads with the UK Treasury but many believe we could see a change in tack in the days and weeks ahead.
