Giant Irish protest at handling of economic crisis

In possibly a sign of things to come for the UK government it has been announced that over 100,000 people marched through the streets of Dublin to protest at the government's handling of the economic crisis. In some ways it is very ironic because only a few weeks ago the Irish authorities were being put forward as one of the more proactive government's making decisions which assisted the economy. However, the last few weeks have seen the emergence of a number of banking scandals which has rocked the economy and left a severe dent in the financial sector.

There are already rumours that the UK government could also be about to witness the power of the UK population with a similar protest a distinct possibility in the weeks ahead. Whether it is fair to blame governments around the world for the current economic downturn is debatable as is the fact that nobody quite knows what to do to cut short the ongoing economic downturn. A protest march by a substantial number of the UK population would place serious pressure on the tenure of Gordon Brown and severely impact the potential for the Labour government to be re-elected at the next general election.
