Alistair Darling begs G20 leaders to commit to help
Alistair Darling has today begged fellow G20 members to commit to future financial stimulus plans as and when required. In what is becoming a dire situation by the day the UK government seems to be singing from a different hymn book when compared to the likes of France and Germany. There are concerns that money is being thrown into the system when the regulatory environment remains unchanged with the potential for further problems in the future. With this in mind it appears as though many G20 leaders are unwilling to sign up to an endless wave of financial assistance at this time.
The UK government risks being seriously cut adrift from the rest of the worldwide political scene and the fact that so far the billions upon billions poured into the UK economy have had no impact does not support the theory of unlimited financial aid. While there have been suggestions of further regulatory changes it would appear these are further down the line although France and Germany have expressed an interest in amending the regulatory system today.
It will be interesting to see who gains the upper hand in the forthcoming London G20 meeting because this is literally a make or break period for the UK government.
