Credit card fraud still rife on UK petrol forecourts
In another disturbing case of organised credit card fraud in the UK, a number of credit card details have been traced to Indian criminals who have been making substantial withdrawals across the world using these stolen card details. This is not the first time that petrol forecourts have been used as a front for various scams although with funds withdrawn from countries such as Australia, Canada, Ghana, India, Thailand, Malaysia and the United States, it would appear that this latest scam is well organised.
While an investigation has been launched into a particular petrol station in Leicester it is highly likely that those involved have already fled the scene. More than ever it is vital that credit card users ensure that they maintain eye contact with their credit card at all times and ensure that third parties are unable to clone their cards on site. Using today's credit card payment systems there should be no need for garage attendants to request or even touch your credit card although it is also essential that customers check the credit card reader for potential cloning devices.
Petrol forecourts are very popular with credit card fraudsters because very often customers are in a rush to pay up and leave and may not be as vigilant as they should be.
