Is India The New Base For UK Credit Card Fraud
In a worrying sign of the times it has been announced that more and more UK credit card fraud cases are being traced back to India. Over the last few weeks it has been revealed that literally hundreds of people in the Bournemouth area have seen funds taken from their accounts, via cash machines in India!
While India is not on the top ten list of fraud centres around the world there are concerns that it may well make a play for the top league. It seems as though the main problem is UK garages, with thousands of cards seemingly being cloned when people pay for their petrol. It can take something as small as a wallet to copy a card and it does not even need to be in sight – as long as the credit card is scanned across it.
Some consumers groups have expressed concern that the authorities have been slow to react to the rising threat from India, but at this moment in time they seem to have more than enough to deal with. More and more of the UK population are being advised to keep an eye on their cards at all time and report any suspicious actions to the police.
