Hackers Create Mayhem At Best Western Hotel Group
As the hotel industry digests news that a hacker has compromised the security of up to 8 million customers of the massive Best Western Hotel Group many are starting to ask if we are afforded the protection we deserve by large corporations.
It seems as though an Indian hacker managed to breach the security checks on the Best Western Hotel Group network and gain access to up to 8 million client records. The records are said to include home addresses, phone numbers, employment details as well as credit card numbers. Rumours are rife that much of the information has already been sold on by the Russian Mafia in a move which some reckon could net the hackers £2.8 billion!
This is just the latest in a growing line of data protection issues which have been seen around the world and while this latest security breach is not though to include the details of British customers it is still a worry to those who regularly use hotels around the world.
Even though there are regular security breaches in industry, it is the size of this particular attack which has shocked many. The move was spotted on Thursday evening and while all systems were locked down, nobody is quite sure how much information was withdrawn before the discovery.
