'1m people' affected by new data leak
Personal details of up to one million bank customers have been found on the hard drive of a computer sold through an online auction site.eBay customer Andrew Chapman found account numbers, contact details and records customers' signatures when he started up his new PC, the Daily Mail reports.These personal details are thought to belong to people who applied for credit cards with American Express, NatWest and RBS.All three financial firms are now investigating the matter.Speaking to the newspaper, Mr Chapman said that he "couldn't believe" that the data had been leaked."[When I started up the computer] in front of me was reams of extremely confidential information about thousands and thousands of people," he added.IT expert Adam Laurie also commented: "This information is worth millions - a thief could easily use it to go on an enormous shopping spree. "This is appalling."
