Visa launches carbon offset credit card

In a move to jump onto the green bandwagon Visa has issued the latest in a line of green credit cards with the launch of the European carbon offset card. Aimed initially at the business market the scheme will allows users to log onto the companies website and see the emission levels produced by items they purchase. Customers will also be able to see how Visa interacts with a whole host of associations around the world to offset the carbon emissions in question. So will it be any cheaper?

Surprisingly enough we have seen no interest rates or credit card charges released into the market as yet, but no doubt they will follow in due course. While these types of card are proving very popular within a growing section of society there is always a concern that you will pay more for the privilege of saving the planet. A marketing gem or fulfilling a market need?

The jury is out on these 'fashion' cards as they seem to disappear as quickly as they appear, while the credit card companies continue to increase their customer base. However, there is no doubt that competition is building in the sector which can only be good news for those with a wish to 'do their bit for the environment'.
