Do credit card benefits have a role in your decision?
While at the moment you are unlikely to be successful when applying for a new credit card, let alone receive any benefits from a card, this area of the market will flourish again in the future. But when you look at a credit card which offers benefits such as air miles, discounts at certain shops and other similar offers, should they play a role in your decision to apply for a card or not?
This is a very tricky question because a lot of it does depend upon personal circumstances, what you need and what you are looking for. It can be easy to get blinded by the offers and not compare the basic rates, something which can affectively see you paying for the offer via higher interest rates.
Then again, let us consider a credit card which gives air miles and has caught your eye, would you be able to spend enough to get a decent amount of air miles and do you actually travel to the destinations on offer? Or if discounts are on offer, do you actually shop at the outlets where you can make use of the savings?
Do not get blinded by what is on offer but ensure that the interest rate you would be paying is competitive first.
