Save the Children set to hand out money to UK families

In a shocking indictment of Britain today it has been revealed that children's charity, Save the Children, will today start handing out poverty payments to UK families. For a charity which is more closely associated with the war-torn countries and famine the fact that UK families are in such a dire situation does not reflect well on the current Labour government.

This is the first time Save the Children has ever even contemplated payments to UK families although a substantial increases in food prices and energy prices have exacerbated a very difficult situation. As the UK authorities continue to focus upon the banking system, pouring billions upon billions of pounds into this area, it seems as though UK families are more and more dependent on charity. These are families who have paid tax all of their working life and expected to be supported by the state in these most difficult of times.

So far there has been no response from the UK government although the new strategy from Save the Children just about says it all. While the long-term future of the UK economy is still fairly upbeat it is obvious we will encounter difficult times in the short to medium term but who would ever have thought that charities normally focused overseas would now turn their efforts to the streets of the UK?
